A car-drive from Rīga takes around one and a half hours.
By bus:
Rīga – Saulkrasti - Ainaži, Rīga – Ainaži – Pērnava – Tallina, Rīga – Limbaži – Ainaži.
Buses to Ainaži run every day. The journey takes from two to four hours depending on the route. One-way ticket price: 3.20 Ls to 4.50 Ls.

Ainaži is a small town in Vidzeme, not far from the Latvian-Estonian frontier. Ainaži lies on the banks of the Baltic Sea. The city started to develop rapidly in the 19th century, when the first Latvian naval school was opened there and a harbour was built in the beginning of the 20th century. During World War Two both the school and the harbour were destroyed and the growth rate of the city decreased, thus an atmosphere of quite and calm small town has settled over Ainaži. The city invites its guests to visit the Memorial Museum of Ainaži Naval School established by Krišjānis Valdemārs, the Fire-fighting Museum of Ainaži, as well as the old Lighthouse of Ainaži and the Memorial Stone “Baltā saule”. One of the most peculiar attractions is the North Pier built at the beginning of the 20th century, which is made of large stones and stretches as far as half a kilometre into the sea. In Ainaži also an old graveyard of seamen is located, which is the resting-place of remarkable seamen of the region.
