Rīga is the largest city in Latvia and the richest in different activities. It was founded in 1201. Through the city meanders the largest river in Latvia – Daugava. Rīga used to be a member of the Hanseatic League, and it was exactly in this city on 18 November 1918 that the Republic of Latvia was proclaimed. The city is friendly to pedestrians and nature devotees – there are a lot of trees, parks, nice and quite districts as well as pleasure cafes in Rīga. The historical centre of Rīga is included in the list of UNESCO world cultural and natural heritage centres. Rīga lures travellers interested in architecture with the quite centre, where great examples of the Art Nouveau architecture can be seen. In Rīga different museums, concert halls, the famous Latvian National Opera, temporary culture centres are located as well as all facilities necessary for those willing to enjoy life: beautiful shops, good restaurants and clubs, hotels of different levels and recreation possibilities for any taste.
