Sigulda is one of the oldest and most picturesque cities in Latvia. The most valuable gem of Sigulda certainly is its nature – the River Gauja and its ancient valley, many hills and hillocks, caves and ravines. Both local and foreign travellers particularly enjoy being in Sigulda during the so-called “golden autumn”, when the hilly valleys are adorned with colourful foliage of autumn trees. Two of the most important attractions are Sigulda Castle Ruins and Sigulda New Castle. The city offers different possibilities both for being active or relaxing. Both in winter and summer activity can be observed on Kaķīškalns Hill – during the cold months it is possible to enjoy wintertainment there, but in summer – to challenge one’s physical capability by climbing trees and clearing hurdles in the track “Mežakaķis”. Travellers may visit also the Sigulda Bobsleigh Track and to go to Krimulda by cable car. Travellers may also visit the legendary place Turaida, which is located nearby. Also the Dainu Kalns Hill, which is devoted to Latvian folklore, can be found there.
