Zemgale is located in the central part of Latvia and is the southern border with Lithuania. The biggest cities of Zemgale are Aizkraukle, Bauska, Jelgava, Dobele and Jekapbils. Zemgale is famous for its fertile ground, therefore you will find many well-kept farmhouses in its territory. Several popular rivers flow through the region—Daugava, Lielupe, Musa and Memele—all of which are suitable for boating. Apart from riversides, there is much more to see, especially places of historic interest that reveal the region’s rich past—castle mounds, mansions, fortresses, parks and secular trees. The most relevant and architecturally elaborate are the Latvian palaces (dating back to 15th-18th centuries)—those of Rundale, Mezotne, Bauska, Krustpils and Kaucminde. Pay a visit also to Tervete Nature Park with its nature trails and castle ruins. Regarding special events, the towns of Zemgale once in a while host impressive festivals or other yearly events, such as the International Festival of Early Music in Bauska or the European Championship for Autocross Drivers at Musa circuit.
