Visiting the Old Town would be difficult for persons using a wheelchair as most of the streets are paved with old cobblestones. Although there are special pavement ramps on the streets in order to make the road smoother for wheelchair-users and mothers with baby carriages, they are often of low quality. More and more hotels, shops, and museums have started to think about comfortable access to wheelchair users although it is not going to be guaranteed everywhere. Most of the public transport in Riga is suitable for disabled persons, and all buses and part of the trolleybuses are equipped with special low-floors that ease getting on and off the vehicle. Introduction of the low-floor trams is planned by the year 2011.
