Traveling from town to town is easiest by bus, sometimes (depending on destination) by train. Tickets can be bought in advance and also on board. If you buy the ticket on board, the price can be higher.

Riga’s public transport system consists of buses, trams and trolley buses. The price of one trip is 0.50 Ls. It is possible to use a plastic smart card, which is meant for long-term use or a cardboard ticket for 5, 10 or 20 trips and for 24 hours, 3 or 5 days. When getting into public transport all passengers need to register their trips, i.e. apply the e-ticket to the validator. The ticket can be activated and supplemented at ticket machines and ticket sales locations in Rīga. There is still the possibility to buy tickets-checks on board for 0.70 Ls.

For 20-35 santims you can take the minibus. Minibus is an express transport, which does not stop at all the bus stops but only where the passengers want. Minibus routes can seem quite confusing and they often do not appear at the bus stops. However, if you do choose to take a minibus, turn to the local people or the driver for help and name your destination early. |
