Art Nouveau Museum opened in Riga
An Art Nouveau Museum has been opened in Riga, at 12 Alberta Street. The building, where the museum's premises are located, was designed by the talented, outstanding Latvian architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns and the museum is now set up inside the apartment, where the architect used to live. Now the first stage of the Art Nouveau Museum has been completed and is open for public access, visitors have a chance to see the apartment's authentically renovated and furnished antechamber, salon with bay windows, fireplace room and an exhibition of furniture and household objects.
After completion of the second stage of works, the doors will be open also to all the other rooms of the Art Nouveau apartment - the dining hall, the bedroom, the maid's room, the kitchen and the bathroom. Eventually, an educational and fun digital permanent exhibition, telling about the Art Nouveau architectural style will be set up at the first floor of the building.
Currently, the museum's collection comprises over 500 authentic articles - Art Nouveau furniture, dishes, embroidery, clothing and a wide range of interior objects. A permanent exhibition on the Art Nouveau architecture, art, design and literature in Riga is planned to be introduced; the museum will also host, on a regular basis, thematic exhibitions on the Art Nouveau in Riga, Europe and globally, about Art Nouveau craftsmen, about manufactures producing Art Nouveau objects and about Art Nouveau articles.
